Background of the site beneficiaries:

  • Mostly from various barangays in Los Baños, other towns of Laguna
  • Many are typhoon victims dislocated by typhoon Milenyo which devastated most barangays in Los Baños.
  • Most are informal settlers from environmentally dangerous areas such as along sides of creeks and rivers, around the Laguna Lake, beside the PNR railroad, and on sloping hills prone to landslides. Some are informal dwellers on government lands such as in UP Los Baños.
  • Usual source of livelihood: wages for services rendered as laborer, gardener, driver, carpenter, and househelp. Most are self employed: pedicab drivers (tri-sikad), junkshop sellers and buyers, and ambulant vendors of various food items.
